About the local area

View of crops

Herefordshire is one of the most beautiful counties in England, with no motorways, no crowds, no congestion - instead there are views! Miles of unspoilt hills, fields, rivers winding through farm-dotted valleys and of course the view of the Welsh Mountains in the distance.

Close up of a roosterDuring May, the countryside is ablaze with apple and pear blossom, for this is cider country. Autumn sees the countryside glowing with gold, russet and rose coloured leaves, for there are many ancient woodlands and forests. This green lush countryside produces some of the best beef, pork and lamb in the country and orchards fill our pantries with apples, pears, soft fruits, and with kitchen tables laden with home grown vegetables, creams, yoghurts and cheeses, it's no wonder everyone is keen to sample the flavours of Hereford. Did we forget to mention the vineyards - Herefordshire is now a very popular wine growing region producing some of the finest wines in the country.

Barrington House nestles in the Frome valley between Hereford and Worcester, home to hop growing. It’s ideally situated for many attractions in the Heart of England such as visits to the Cotswolds, the Malvern Hills, Wye Valley, the Marches, the Welsh Borders and black and white olde villages of Hereford and Worcestershire.

An abundance of castles, National Trust properties, gardens and historic houses coupled with art galleries, antique shops and farmers markets, makes Barrington House the ideal choice for exploring this rare jewel in the Region's crown.

View of a lakeYou can spend all morning enjoying Bishops Frome's own fabulous delicatessen and craft and antique centre, or stroll past hop fields and fruit orchards to the award winning Frome Valley Vineyard for a tasty treat. Afternoons for the energetic could include cycling around the delightful country lanes, riding, canoeing or a walk on the Historic Malvern Hills where you can sample Malvern Spring water (and take in the views!) There is a vast choice of outdoor pursuits and activities nearby for all ages and interests.

Many local award winning pubs and restaurants offer excellent food when cooking is not on the agenda! Visit some of the National Trust properties, castles and country homes in close vicinity such as Eastnor Castle, Hampton Court, Brockhampton Estate or Witley Court (15 minutes away!) Don't miss a visit to Royal Worcester Porcelain, the stunning Worcester and Hereford Cathedrals (with the oldest map of the world - the Mappa Mundi), cider museums and cheese farms in the area.

The renowned Malvern Theatres and Malvern Show grounds are right on our doorstep. If you think all this sounds good - it is!
